Headpiece
For this project, the task was to create a statement piece inspired by a chosen artist, using recycled materials. Opting for British pop singer Griff, whose live performance I had the pleasure of experiencing in the summer of 2022, the goal was to craft a headpiece that authentically mirrors her persona and artistic essence. Drawing from her iconic bubble ponytail and fashion flair, while also honoring her Chinese heritage, elements from traditional Chinese headpieces and her personal style were incorporated, resulting in a modern interpretation of historical jewelry.
Material-wise, the crown predominantly comprises recycled detergent bottles, including both transparent and black opaque variations. Employing two primary techniques, strands of plastic were intricately woven through each other, and the material was melted down and poured into semi-circular molds. The assembly process involved pressing all components between two black bands and weaving a final piece of plastic through for secure cohesion. A refined finishing touch was added with golden thread, elevating the sophistication and detail of the piece.
