For this project, a 2D shape served as the starting point, which was cut out with precision on the laser cutter and could then be unfolded as a three-dimensional bracelet. The theme of this artwork sprang from the animal kingdom, where my inspiration was fed by the graceful and natural shapes of jellyfish in the sea.
To transition from a flat surface to a refined 3D shape, I looked at the cutting patterns of Japanese paper vases. I experimented further on this until a beautiful spiral pattern emerged. In terms of material choice, I carefully selected two different types of plastic and a transparent fabric. These were cut into five layers with extreme precision and then subtly interwoven with silver thread, elegantly reminiscent of the tentacles of a jellyfish.
On the top layer, I engraved a drawing evoking associations with an eye surrounded by snakes or tentacles. This image is a thoughtful reference to the Gorgone Medusa from Greek mythology, who paralysed her victims with her gaze. It is also a tribute to the jellyfish, which goes by the name 'Méduse' in French, making a poetic connection between myth and the splendour of marine life.
