Set in stone
Date
May 2023
Materials
brass plate, polymer clay
Type
Ring
This ring draws its inspiration from a photograph of someone fashioning jewelry from a parasol by inserting their finger into an opening in the pole. The ring's form is inspired by the cylindrical shape of the pole with its distinctive aperture. The choice of stone for the ring alludes to the material securing the parasol in place. Additionally, design cues were taken from ancient Roman rings.
Designed to encircle the middle finger, the ring secures itself through two folded side elements that hook beneath the index and ring fingers. Crafted from alpaca, with the stone fashioned from aged polymer clay, the latter exhibiting cracks post-baking, lending it the appearance of a weathered stone. The opening at the front of the ring is utilized to securely embed the stone within the ring, enhancing both aesthetics and structural integrity.
